I loved these comments from Rachel Poling regarding social media “fallacies”.  Check your “Social Media IQ” against these items from Rachel’s most nimble brain.    You can find more excellent posts from her at      http://rachelannpoling.com/2012/05/20/four-fallacies-of-social-media/   and her contact info is at the end of the post.

Are You Falling For One of These 4 Fallacies of Social Media?

Paths you do not want to go down.

I’ll get right to the point. There are so many people who are being misled in their thinking about how social media works. It is very obvious to see the results of this thinking in failed “campaigns” and spammy tactics that make people like me cringe.

Jeff Bennington writes insightful posts on his experiences as a writer and as a provider of services to self-published authors.  He’s very active on Twitter and on other social media sites.    Here is his blog site –

As an indie author I have to confess that I am guilty of believing a lie — not just one, but many. They are the same lies I see self-published authors fall for all the time. I see the lies in tweets, in emails, in DM’s and blog posts. The lies run rampant. The lies are deadly. The lies set writers up for failure and they are like a disease that has the potential to thin out the indie author population within a couple of years.

I can’t believe how lucky I am to have a fan like Jill.  She took  Shades of Gray on a worldwide cruise (New Zealand to her home in England)  and had a few adventures.  So we all get a few great pics to look at!

——————————————————————–

I saw the request on your website in February for photos of your book in some of the places it was sent. That request came at an interesting time for me – I was about to leave New Zealand, where I’d been living for a year, to return home to England and I was taking the slow route back by sea to visit some places along the way. I thought it could be quite fun if I found somewhere good to get a shot in each of these. So your book lived in my bag for a couple of months and I took pictures of it everywhere.

This is very valuable info from Russell Blake, who some call the “Hardest Worker Author in Indie Publishing”.   Others call him the “Biggest Consumer of Tequila in

Indie Publishing”.   Either way, he’s a smart, hardworking writer who is willing to share his escapades, numbers, and ideas.   He’s encouraging……  and funny.

Here’s his blog site –      http://russellblake.com/

and check out his latest release on Amazon,  The Voynich Cyper      (and, pssst, he’s got a BUNCH of other titles too)

So – despite Mama’s best advice about not giving it away for free,  I’m doing it anyway.      (click here)

Grab an eBook copy of  “Shades of Gray” for your Kindle or other eBook reading device today  before they sell out.  (silly boy, eBooks don’t sell out!)

Also,  because I’m such a “swell” guy, I’m also throwing in a free interview for you to listen to that was recorded yesterday (4/10/2012) on our local NPR affiliate, WUNC – FM.   I visited with the mega-cool Frank Stasio on his show – “The State of Things”  which highlights the arts, news, and all things North Carolina.      Here you go.  (excuse my rough voice, have a little cold)

Hope you enjoy the book and don’t forget to show a brother a little luv by posting a review on Amazon and/or GoodReads.  Just a sentence  or two is enough lovin’ for me.  Remember, I’m cheap. (smile)      (click here)

Doug was gracious enough to share his insight and REAL numbers from his recent “freebie” days with KDP Select.  (this is a re-post from his blog, yeah, I know, I’m lazy this week.)   Doug’s info is packed with great data that will help other writers.

I read his novel and it is excellent.  Fast, exciting, and a GREAT “bad” guy.  (Hey, I love villains)    Click Here to get his book.

In this post I’m sharing the results of my second round of free days I used in my first 90 days in Kindle Select.

My second round of KDP Select I used my remaining 3 days of my 5. My first round or two free days was in January and had some modest success. I decided to wait two months to use my remaining free days to give readers a little break and to get them in in time for me to decide if I wanted to renew in Select for another 90 days.

The Power of a Supportive Family –

Uncool Dad's "R" Us

Uncool Dads "R" Us

I was fortunate enough to be picked for an interview with a statewide Public Radio Show to chat about  my novel.   It is a show that my entire family knows as my wife and I are ardent WUNC-FM fans and thus force our kids to listen to Public Radio rather than the latest music from LMFAO, Justin Beiber, Kesha, et. al, which the kids seem to prefer, for some strange reason.

At the dinner table this weekend, I proudly informed all of them that I was going to on the radio and these are the comments that I got – —
