Have you ever dreamed you were flying? If so, you know how exciting that type of dream can be. High School Principal Nick Townsend had those dreams regularly, and he used to enjoy them.

But in late 2012, after losing another battle against the mighty tequila demon, he awakens the next morning remembering a dream of an elementary school shooting in progress. When he sees the details from his dream on the news, he knows that he’s been given a gift (curse?) and the next time he drinks and dreams, he enlists his best friend to help him stop a shooting in Arkansas.

As his alcoholism continues to haunt him, he must decide whether to try and save more students from certain death. He wants to do the right thing. But should he risk his life when his lovely fiance is carrying his child? Will he win the war against tequila? And what if he drinks and dreams again, only to find that the next shooting is happening at HIS SCHOOL?

Here’s the scoop on what the novel is about –

Nick Townsend is a high school principal battling alcohol addiction. After falling off the wagon, he awakens the next morning remembering a dream that included him flying over an elementary school shooting, in progress.  The next day, the school shooting he saw in his dream is headline news.  When it happens again, he is determined to prevent the tragedy and solicits his best friend to help him save more children from certain death.

But what is the cost of saving lives?  Will he continue to risk his life when the woman he loves is carrying his child?  Can he win the battle against the demon tequila that threatens to wreck his world?  And, when he awakens one morning remembering another school shooting dream, can he stop the horrible event from happening at his school?

This is the first blog post that I’ve brought up the topic of a new release,  so my fingers are trembling ever so slightly as I contemplate releasing the new novel out into the world.    In anticipation of the new book,  I’m in the process of building a mailing list to keep folks informed about the upcoming new work and other tidbits of wisdom (should I have any)  that I can pass along.

Because of this, I’m having a Giveaway! To enter see below.

The new novel’s early title (subj. to change)  is   “When His Dreams Take Flight”  and  here’s the setup –    dreams of flying-revised60pct

Have you ever dreamed you were flying?  If so, you probably know how    spectacular it is.  Nick Townsend had these types of dreams regularly and he USE to enjoy them.

In late 2012, he’s been suspended from his job as a high school principal.
His stress knocks him off the wagon and his alcohol addiction gets the better of him.
He wakes up the next morning remembering that his flying dream took him over the site of an elementary school shooting IN PROGRESS.   When he watches the details of THAT school shooting play out on the news the very next day, he realizes he’s been given special insight.  The next time he drinks, it happens again, and he heads off to Arkansas stop the shooters.

But can a thirty-something, small town NC high school principal stop these tragedies?

Should he risk his life when he’s about to marry the sexiest teacher in town who’s also having his baby?

Can he win his battle against tequila?

And what might happen if he drinks again only to wake up to the realization
that HIS school is the next to be attacked?

It has been one unbelievably fun year since my first novel was published.   New writer friends, reader feedback, sales, and an experience that exceeded my wildest dreams (and I can have some doggone wild dreams!)   The social media aspect of this past year has been off the charts cool.  I have made dozens of writer friends and thus tapped into this incredible community of folks who are just like me (though probably less weird).  They are smart, funny, supportive, and just downright nice.  Hats off to all of you.  You set the standard  for what social media is all about.

2012 would not have played out this way without a couple of very special folks who contributed their time and enthusiasm to my project.  So here is a holiday shout out of thanks to some very, very special folks (in random order) —

There was a time when I was cool.  I know there was.  I can feel it like one of those distant memories that comes back to you with some clarity and you can glimpse it for a few moments, then it disappears.  Unfortunately, now the level of my coolness is completely dependent upon the whims of my 14 yr old teen queen – and she sets the bar pretty high.  Here is a recent conversation –

Me – “Hey, did I tell you that I now have 36k followers on Twitter.”    TQ (teen queen) –  “That’s not really cool, Dad, you don’t even know those people.”   Me – “Yes I do!  They’re all my BFF’s!”

TQ – “You mean even those folks you swap messages with in Korea and the Phillipines?”

Me – “Uh, yeah!   I’m good friends with all of them.  We chat about how much we love K-pop like ‘Gangnum Style'”   (I then begin to dance around the room like I’m riding a horse and sing the song.)

TQ- “Ok Dad, ok,  …stop dancing, please please stop dancing  ….. .I’m sure you are BFF’s with all your twitter followers (eyeroll).   You should know there is a new acronym for folks like you on social media.  It is  S-M-H .”

Me- “Wow!  Does it stand for  So Macho & Handsome?”      TQ –  “No…..  it stands for  —  Social Media Ho.”    Me – (indignantly) –  “No way!  I’m not a Social Media Ho.”    TQ –  “Well Dad, I didn’t make up the term.  You better

do a little checking on the web and see if maybe you are one.”      Me –     “Challenge accepted.”

Are You Falling For One of These 4 Fallacies of Social Media?

Paths you do not want to go down.

I’ll get right to the point. There are so many people who are being misled in their thinking about how social media works. It is very obvious to see the results of this thinking in failed “campaigns” and spammy tactics that make people like me cringe.
