The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 13,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 5 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

I rarely take on newsy, political subjects, but with tongue semi-planted in cheek, I would like to take this brief moment to say thank you to Canada.      4379691-a-canadian-flag-shaped-like-a-heartford

Unless you’ve been hiding in a cave for the last few weeks, you know about the trials and tribulations of Toronto’s newest celebrity, Mayor Rob Ford.  If you don’t know him,  then be sure to watch the beginning of the “Daily Show with Jon Stewart” from yesterday (nov. 14,  warning – laughter will induce pants wetting).   Amazing.

So Torontonians (sp?) , on behalf of all us just to the south  –  Thank you so much for electing Rob Ford as your mayor.  See, here in the U.S., we’re overwhelmed with mayors who smoke crack (Marion Berry, DC mayor)  and politicians who tweet pictures of their male private parts (Weiner, yes, that is his name)…..(checking google translate now as to how they say ‘male private parts’ in canadian speak….oh good, they just say ‘dick’ ).

We have politicians who solicit bribes openly (Blagojevich) and openly solicit other men in airport bathrooms.

In fact, we’re quite jaded when it comes to scandal, just another day in the life of a democratic superpower.

But, oh boy, are we happy that our buddy Rob is making the news.  It calms us…..makes us feel…well, almost normal.

So please accept our sincere gratitude.  Quite frankly, you’ve made this a very special upcoming Holiday Season!

And, please, please, please…….is there any chance you could elect him Prime Minister?   Hmmm…..well just think about it, okay?

( here is link to Nov. 14 episode of “The Daily Show”  too funny,  thanks again Canada)

You’ll see writers talking about how much they value their “early” readers (aka beta readers)  for their feedback on story ideas, pacing, plot points, characterization, etc.   That holds doubly true for me as I struggle to put together a story that  keeps the reader’s attention.   My mother is one of my biggest supporters in all things writing, so she is always willing to read a rough draft and provide comments.

When I got in my car today, I turned off my cell phone.  I didn’t want to be distracted.

I read that using your cell phone while driving is like drinking and driving.  I’m smarter than that.save_a_life_today-300x200

Because I turned off my phone, I saved someone’s life.  Now I don’t have to spend the rest of my life remembering the day I killed someone.  Now I don’t have to cry myself to sleep thinking about the suffering  I caused another family.  A family that would miss their loved one every day.  I don’t have wake up every morning and recall that my silly obsession with phone calls and text messages caused another human being to perish.

This is the first blog post that I’ve brought up the topic of a new release,  so my fingers are trembling ever so slightly as I contemplate releasing the new novel out into the world.    In anticipation of the new book,  I’m in the process of building a mailing list to keep folks informed about the upcoming new work and other tidbits of wisdom (should I have any)  that I can pass along.

Because of this, I’m having a Giveaway! To enter see below.

The new novel’s early title (subj. to change)  is   “When His Dreams Take Flight”  and  here’s the setup –    dreams of flying-revised60pct

Have you ever dreamed you were flying?  If so, you probably know how    spectacular it is.  Nick Townsend had these types of dreams regularly and he USE to enjoy them.

In late 2012, he’s been suspended from his job as a high school principal.
His stress knocks him off the wagon and his alcohol addiction gets the better of him.
He wakes up the next morning remembering that his flying dream took him over the site of an elementary school shooting IN PROGRESS.   When he watches the details of THAT school shooting play out on the news the very next day, he realizes he’s been given special insight.  The next time he drinks, it happens again, and he heads off to Arkansas stop the shooters.

But can a thirty-something, small town NC high school principal stop these tragedies?

Should he risk his life when he’s about to marry the sexiest teacher in town who’s also having his baby?

Can he win his battle against tequila?

And what might happen if he drinks again only to wake up to the realization
that HIS school is the next to be attacked?
