This blog post by Mark Coker, of Smashwords fame, is just too good not to repost. I love his macro take on what is happening and will happen in the publishing world. I don’t agree with every statement, but no one can disagree with the fact that Mark is a SUPERB source of info regarding self-publishing. He’s been on the front lines since 2007, which makes him THE elder statesman of the industry !

Like you, I don’t agree with everything Mark Coker has to say in this post, but I think it’s worth the time committment it takes to read it. I wish we had a crystal ball to tell us what will happen in 2013. Marketing self-published works can be daunting and I’m still trying to find the best way to get my books in front of readers. The only thing I’m certain of is that ebooks and Amazon will continue to be a large part of the book industry.
hugs, thanks diana

I too, don’t buy everything he says, and frankly I hate the Smashwords platform. However, I agree that self-publishing is rapidly transforming the book industry. Self-publishing is the logical outgrowth of technology, just as television transformed entertainment, personal computers transformed communication, and digital photography transformed art, so are digital readers and POD transforming how we read and write.
