Last year at this time, I would have been a proud member of the the “Twitter is such a waste of time”  club.  I could’ve been the President.  Been there, done that.

 

But I’ve grown older and wiser in the last 12 months.  I followed the advice of others in preparation for the publication of my novel and began to spend time building a (…….don’t say, ….don’t say, it…..)   platform.  uggh.    Gotta have folks know who you are, right?  It is a pretty simple formula –  No platform = itty bitty sales.

Twitter was the last place that I thought I would invest much of my time.  Already had a few dozen friends on FB and that was the place where friends connect, right?

 

Twitter has been a true godsend.  Here I come, diving into a brand new world with my new little baby to show off (da book) and damnation if Twitter hasn’t delivered for me in SPADES. (had to use that stupid phrase, still don’t know what it means.)   Yes – I have friends on Twitter.  They outnumber my friends on the almighty FB !!!    Most of them are writers, just like me.  All of us struggling through the jungle of book marketing, trying to find our way.  And to stretch this metaphor just a little further – Many of my writer friends have already cut a path.  They’ve been battling the vines and dangerous animals and they’ve left me a trail.  It’s a trail that is not completely smooth, but a trail nonetheless.  Furthermore, they are EXCITED to show me the way.  I have gained a HUGE AMOUNT of support, advice, guidance, and just plain old friendship.  These are some pretty great folks.  (pssst, and I JUST GOT STARTED ON TWITTER,   hi5 on that)

 

Oh, and did I mention that folks are buying my book??   Yes indeed.  And a big chunk of the sales are due to Twitter.  Imagine that.  It’s just like killing two birds with one stone.   (Don’t mean to offend the Twitter folks, you know, the logo being a bird and everything.)
