Andy Holloman – Dad, Writer, Goofball

So, a funny thing happened on the way to publishing my book.  I made friends.  I posted a few weeks ago about how much I have valued Twitter as a resource for connecting with other writers, most of whom are self-published.  By getting out there and mingling, I have connected with about a dozen writers that I now consider to be friends.

And, these connections allowed me to become involved with a special event that starts tomorrow (12/13) –  the 99cent eBook event.   Sponsored by Melissa Foster and the folks at the WoMen’s Lit Cafe, I was fortunate enough to be able to join the “WLC” group without even having to undergo sex change surgery!   The WLC  is committed to supporting writers of all types and genres and is leading the charge of gathering up indie writers to work collectively to get their message out.

My good fortune at being able to join this group, further highlights how important it is to get out there and network.  The term “networking” can have bad connotations. (think network marketing)   However, when you apply the term to writers and twitter, all the negative connotations melt away.  You see, writing is an inherently solo endeavor.  But if one strives to improve their writing, getting out there and meeting writers, editors, publishers, and READERS is an absolute essential.  To steal a phrase (which us writers occasionally do)  “Good writing abhors a vacuum”.

Stay out of the vacuum.  Get out there and mingle.    Oh yeah, and don’t forget to have some fun.
