If you enjoy reading, and like to use the Internet for finding great new reads, you may well have heard of Goodreads before: This is a superb website hosting a vibrant community of book lovers, teeming with book recommendations and reviews. In other words, an ideal place to find new reads. We’ve briefly covered Goodreads in a Directory post back in 2010, and last year I reviewed the Goodreads Android app. We’ve also included the site in a roundup up 7+ Sites To Help You Decide Which Book To Read Next, but we’ve never taken a good long look at the Goodreads core – the site itself. Up until today, that is.

As writers, we often get questions on where our story ideas come from. 

They come from a story in the news, something read, an observation from the world, or discussion with friends. Something out there tugs at the corner of the mind: What if? What would happen if? What if that was merged with, Why did that …?

Today, we’re going to explore where six of the Best Selling Reads authors got their ideas for a completed work or a work in progress.

 .. So, like all great blog posts,  I had a fit of creative comedic energy and I just had to poke a little fun at writers (hey, its a lot easier to do this than it is for me to write a simple passage where a character walks out of a room, what can I say).

   Self-deprecating writer humor is a mandatory feature of being a scribbler (or, in my case, pretending to be one),   so here goes……..

When I started reading this book, at first I thought that was just one of those  ”Fifty Shades of Gray” books. The ones very similar to the very famous trilogy.  Nothing prepared me for the emotional and thrilling story that followed.

I can’t believe that it’s a debut novel.

This blog post by Mark Coker, of Smashwords fame,  is just too good not to repost.  I love his macro take on what is happening and will happen in the publishing world.  I don’t agree with every statement, but no one can disagree with the fact that Mark is a SUPERB source of info regarding self-publishing.  He’s been on the front lines since 2007, which  makes him THE  elder statesman of the industry !
