If you’re a reader (regardless of quantity)   then you will enjoy this article about GoodReads.   It is an excellent tool for those who enjoy books.

If you enjoy reading, and like to use the Internet for finding great new reads, you may well have heard of Goodreads before: This is a superb website hosting a vibrant community of book lovers, teeming with book recommendations and reviews. In other words, an ideal place to find new reads. We’ve briefly covered Goodreads in a Directory post back in 2010, and last year I reviewed the Goodreads Android app. We’ve also included the site in a roundup up 7+ Sites To Help You Decide Which Book To Read Next, but we’ve never taken a good long look at the Goodreads core – the site itself. Up until today, that is.

As writers, we often get questions on where our story ideas come from.

They come from a story in the news, something read, an observation from the world, or discussion with friends. Something out there tugs at the corner of the mind: What if? What would happen if? What if that was merged with, Why did that …?

Today, we’re going to explore where six of the Best Selling Reads authors got their ideas for a completed work or a work in progress.

From March, 2013 –

In Jan 2012 I worked with a couple authors who were having a hard time selling their books, and I helped one of them hit Amazon’s Top-100 in the paid store, and the other came very close. Since that time, I have helped other authors evaluate the basic elements of their Amazon book page that are actually “UN-selling” their book.

Believe it or not, many new and not so new authors are scratching their heads, wondering why their book, as well written as it is, is not selling. They look at their monthly KDP reports, and their Amazon ranking and wonder what’s going on. If that is you, the problem could be that you are on the inside looking in, and are not seeing the big picture. The following is an example of such an author.

It has been one unbelievably fun year since my first novel was published.   New writer friends, reader feedback, sales, and an experience that exceeded my wildest dreams (and I can have some doggone wild dreams!)   The social media aspect of this past year has been off the charts cool.  I have made dozens of writer friends and thus tapped into this incredible community of folks who are just like me (though probably less weird).  They are smart, funny, supportive, and just downright nice.  Hats off to all of you.  You set the standard  for what social media is all about.

2012 would not have played out this way without a couple of very special folks who contributed their time and enthusiasm to my project.  So here is a holiday shout out of thanks to some very, very special folks (in random order) –

This is a terrific blog posting from writer Alisha Paige.  I find it interesting to read comments from writers who are experienced in being traditionally published AND have published themselves.  Thanks Alisha for your comments and thoughts.   I know they will be valuable to others as well.

Today I’m debunking myths within the indie world. In other words, I’ve heard some crazy rumors flying around some writing blogs and I want to get the truth out for a couple of reasons. 1) I hate how negative rumors can ruin a very good thing. 2) If I were a new writer considering indie publishing my book, I know for a fact that if I read some of the false blogs about inflated costs, I’d probably never take the risk to indie pub my books and that makes me sad. :(
